Charter Oak: The Real Review of the Restaurant

I am a big time foodie who has this habit of exploring new restaurants every other day. But, all of those restaurants, I still remember this one that served me some mind-blowing cuisines while I was in St. Helena, California. The name is Charter Oak that is centered on a celebratory, family-style dining place that mesmerized me with its simple, approachable, and seasonal food there. If you will ever get a chance to visit this restaurant, I bet you wouldn’t be able to take your eyes off the menu first.

Their menu is loaded with all those delicious dishes that made me crave for almost everything listed there, after rolling my eyes over it. Right from those green and fresh veggies to grilled meats, local wines, and cocktail, I was able to find almost everything that I wanted here. Their menu reflected the products of Napa Valley through their elemental cooking style and by highlighting only one or two ingredients at a time.

What’s up with the Food?

Starting from starters, I got a chance to savor the taste of grilled potatoes stuffed with Marin brie and trout roe and fire-roasted oysters with chanterelle butter. Believe me, it was soul soothing. The next I ate was grilled pork shoulder in acorn miso along with beef rib grilled with beets dresses in the rendered fat. Oh well, its taste was heavenly. I went crazy after savoring the flavors of this dish, so I tried a few more from the hearth like duck leg, spiced honey, sweet potato along with awesome beverages.

Sipping on Beverages

Talking about beverages, the Charter Oak serves some classically-focused cocktails ranging right from reserve cocktails crafted with rare spirits to bottled cocktails and large format “for the table” drinks. You will be amazed by the extensive list of sought-after local beers and wines, which were followed by zero-proof beverages made in-house.

I tasted the blend of three rums i.e. lime, mint, and ginger beer. Umm, I still remember the taste, which was yum.

I even had my eye on that long list of The Charter Oak cocktails, out of which I sipped spirit works vodka, blueberry, lavender, schramsberg, club soda. The list was long and I wanted to taste them all. No worries, what I had a chance to taste here was simply superb.

What’s Unusual Here?

Well, besides some mind-blowing dishes and beverages at The Charter Oak, you will even get to see ducks, octopus, beef shanks, and plenty of veggies like cabbage and cauliflower hanging in the restaurant, which is visible from all over the room. I quite liked this idea of theirs to keep everything transparent.

What else?

Fresh crispy pasta like veggie Bolognese prepared with hearth roasted veggies and preserved tomatoes are worth trying once you are here. I tried it and I think it is hard to convey in words how wonderful it was.

Final words

My experience in The Charter Oak was simply awesome. Right from the food and beverages to the ambiance and services, I like everything. I would love to pay a visit to this restaurant again and again and highly recommend this restaurant to all the foodies out there.
